Eh, that's just how Captain MacMillan LOOKS, though. That's how he's dressed in the one mission you play with him. He was gonna be weak regardless, the picture really didn't do anything. It's like when people complain about GLaDOS's match pictures - she just isn't photogenic.

MGS2/SotC is my vote for one of the most lopsided pictures. On the left you have Snake looking all cool, doing what he does best, and then a blurry mess on the right where you can barely tell what's happening. I would have been pissed if my upset special had lost.

SFF doesn't always work the way you'd expect. Everyone thought Sora would beat Pikachu when Blue was in the poll, and that didn't happen. And Mega Man beat Charizard despite Zero being there. Sometimes characters get leeched, sometimes they don't.

I don't think Mario was a villain until this contest. When Vivi beat him it was more the hilarity of breaking the status quo than anything else. When he shows up, almost gets beaten by Samus, then holds on in the rematch when voters are desperate for a shakeup, he started getting anti-voted.

Sonic feels like he got to keep some dignity just because he didn't make news this contest. He didn't break the Noble Nine, he didn't choke a close match, he basically just did what he was supposed to and dropped out on schedule. Can't say the same for Mega Man or Sephiroth. Sonic could still be weaker than them, but at least he didn't embarrass himself.
